Mark King is first to pot a ball
in his match against Jimmy White, although the first opening break of 30 is made
by Fergal O'Brien in his match against Jamie Cope......Jamie immediately replies
with a break of 70 to seal the frame. John Parrott can only sit and watch
as Joe Perry rattles in a break of 101 to take the first frame.....Mark King
takes an early lead against Jimmy White with some consistent potting... A break
of 54 is enough to give Liu Chuang the opening frame....Fergal gets the second
frame underway with a break of 43, but the lead is reduced to three points when
Cope replies with a break of 40 and then with another break of 30+ sees the
frame go his way.....Liu Chuang continues to show fine form in the second as he
notches up a break of 53 although Dominic Dale comes back with a break of
64.....John Parrott takes the second after taking a good lead........Mark King
doubles his lead against Jimmy White and the break of 64 by Dominic Dale is
enough to level the match 1-1.....Jimmy gets the scoring underway in frame 3,
only to break down on 19.....Joe and John are both playing an attacking game and
making points at nearly every visit in an exciting match.....Jamie and Fergal
become embroiled in an interesting tactical exchange during the opening shots of
the third frame...Liu continues to dominate in his match against Dominic and
makes a break of 53 at the start of the third which proves enough to later take
the frame.....A break of 60 by Jamie put him 44 points in front in frame three,
while a break of 67 by Mark powers him into a 3-0 lead against Jimmy.....Jamie
knocks in the last yellow, so Fergal now requires one snooker.....Although Jamie
sinks the Green to extend his lead, Fergal tries to lay one of the two snooker
requires and is unlucky when he commits a foul and then conceding the
third.....Jimmy White gets himself narrowly back into a 5 point lead in the
fourth with a break of 29, although there are still a few reds left, the frame
is closely fought with the scores level at 43-43 when only brown and remaining
colours are left.....A break of 39 by Joe is enoug h to end the frame and level
the match at 2-2 with John Parrott as the players head off for their interval
break.....The brown, blue and pink are potted to end the frame in the King/White
match and it's Mark King who is heading off to the interval with a 4-0
lead.....Jamie Cope also goes into his interval with a 4-0 lead over Fergal
O'Brien.....It's nip and tuck in the fourth frame between Dominic and
Liu.....Liu gets a 20 break to come within 12 points of Dominic's lead and then
after a couple of visits takes the lead and then wins the frame to take a 3-1
lead going into the interval break.....John Parrott gets the scoring underway in
the fifth, although it is not long before Joe notches up the points to get a
good lead in the frame.....Mark King continues to dominate in his match against
Jimmy White and takes the fifth with a break of 68.....Joe Perry also knocks in
a sizeable break to regain the lead in his match.....Jimmy is going to have to
dig deep if he is to get back into the match.....Fergal has a 29 point lead in
the fifth frame.....Mark King breaks down on 25 in the sixth against Jimmy White
who replies with a 47 break to take the lead in this frame before a clearance to
the pink gives him the frame win....A good break of over 60 by Fergal in the
fifth frame is also enough to get his first frame win registered.......Liu
Chuang's 52 break in frame five proves enough to extend his lead.....Jamie Cope
develops a 63-0 lead in frame six, to win the frame and extend his lead to 5-1
over Fergal O'Brien.....With the scores level at 41-41, John Parrott takes the
brown, blue and pink to win the frame to level the scores at 3-3.....Fergal
makes a 41 break in the sixth to get a 30 point lead.....Dominic and Liu are
battling through a tense thriller in frame six......Mark King has the upper hand
in frame seven with a 54 point lead over Jimmy White, before winning the frame
with a break of 34 to take a massive 6-1 lead.....Consistent break building by
John Parrott gets him back into a 4-3 lead over Joe Perry.....Dominic Dale's 17
break ends the deadlock in frame five against Liu Chuang and is enough to pull
one frame back.....A break of 19 by Jimmy White looks to get him back into frame
eight until Mark wins the frame at his next visit, to lead the match
7-1.....Fergal gets off to a good start in frame eight with a 47 break but can
only watch as Jamie makes a frame winning break to take his lead to 6-2.....A
break 45 of is more than enough to get Mark King over the winning line in frame
9 to extend his lead to 8-1 at the end of the first session.....Jimmy White will
certainly have his work cut-out if he is to progress to the draw for the next
round as he will have to win nine of the remaining ten frames.....A brown to
pink clearance is enough for John Parrott to snatch the eighth frame.....A
winning break of , puts a five frame advantage between Jamie Cope and Fergal
O'Brien.....Liu Chuang extends his lead over Dominic Dale after another tactical
battle in frame seven.....Dominic gets frame eight underway with a well executed
132 break frame winning break.....John Parrott's confidence continues as a
couple of breaks in frame nine give him a 57 point lead, which is converted to
winning the frame and taking a 6-3 lead into the remainder of his
match....Dominic and Liu have become embroiled in a safety battle in the
deciding frame of this session as neither want to give any opportunity to their
opponent in such an important frame.....Do remember that we will be covering the
China Open live, from 23rd to 30th March.....As we return to the match here at
EIS Sheffield, Liu is picking off the balls one-by-one at subsequent visits in
what could be a low scoring frame.....Liu's 20 point advantage is gradually
reduced to four points but then restored and built upon in this very closely
contested ninth frame.....A final push gets Liu over the line and his lead
increases to 6-3... The players are back in action and immediately Mark
King is on a run of 30... King broke down but has immediately got another
scoring chance... he hasn't made much of that and now White can get some points
together...
Joe Perry has made a good start on the resumption, and needs to quickly make
some inroads into Parrott's 6-3 lead... Great response here by White as his
break reaches 56... that was vintage White as he rattled in a 90 break, but
sadly it is probably far too little, far too late to affect the outcome of the
match... P erry broke down just short of the line, but has done enough to
pull a frame back... Fergal has also pulled a frame back, knocking in a
frame-wining break... Dale is also on course to take a frame back, leading 49-35 on a run of 47...
Dale's break ends at 55... Dominic is struggling to clinch this frame and he's
let Chuang back in now... White is amongst the balls again in frame eleven,
could he start sowing a few seeds of doubt in King's mind? John Parrott has pounced on
an opening and made 31 so far... Dale eventually clinches frame ten to reduces
his arrears... Parrott's break ends but he's 68-12 up... White has faltered and
King takes the lead on a run of 26... a let off for Jimmy and he's moved 56-38
ahead now... and there's another frame for White... Dale's got a nice opening in
frame eleven, onto 25 so far.... Parrott's closed out that frame and re-opened a three frame buffer... King's
got the upper hand in the next, his break has moved on to 46.... Dale gets a
second visit and is close to clinching the frame... a great reply by King, a frame-winning 72 break and he's one frame from victory now... Parrott has
opened a 55 point lead in frame twelve... Cope has held on in a fragmented frame
and leads 8-3 now... Parrott clinches the frame, he's got a four frame lead no w at 8-4, a great performance so far today from the
genial Scouser... Jimmy White is now staring defeat in the face, which will mean
he'll finish the season no better than 65 in the rankings, although he will keep his tour place thanks to being in the top 8 from the one-year list... being
outside the top 64 means he'll start way back in round one of the qualifiers
next season... and there it is, King secures victory and goes into tomorrow's
draw... O'Brien has pulled another frame back with a fifty plus run... Fergal is
going well in the next and his break moved along to 56 before breaking down...
Chuang is resisting everything Dale can throw at him so far and he's regained
his two frame lead again... Perry takes a vital frame and now trails 8-5 at the
interval, as does O'Brien... Dale battles on against Chuang, a slow start to
this frame so far... Chuang has broken the stalemate and compiled a 57 break to
lead by 49... he's clinched the frame to lead 8-5 at the interval... can Dale
fight back or can Chuang become the fourth Chinese representative at the
Crucible, a sign of a tidal wave of Chinese stars? Meanwhile Cope has held off a challenge from O'Brien to stretch his lead to 9-5.. and in no time at all
Cope has rattled past 60 in the next, all over bar the handshake now... not
quite as he breaks down on 63, one last glimmer of hope for Fergal... Dale and Perry are both on breaks as their matches resume again... O'Brien is
clinging on by his finger tips but he's 63-29 down... and both Dale and Perry
break down and give chances to Chuang and Parrott... Fergal has earned two fouls from Cope, so trails 37-63 now... at last Cope
gets the red and he's clinched his Crucible place... Chuang has clinched that
frame, just one from victory... Joe Perry claws back another frame and he's
still well in this match although he's 8-6 down... Liu Chuang has fluffed the
first chance in frame fifteen, maybe one last chance for Dale... and a great
response from the Welshman who's won the frame and the break is still going at
83... Joe Perry has garnered 45 points so far in the 15th frame... and Dale is
amongst the balls again, can he put the Chinese youngster under some pressure
now... but his run ends at 45... this is a good break by Perry, he's up to 68,
just one more ball and he's only a frame behind again... well Parrott's lead is
clipped to 8-7, this is building into a real thriller now... and Dale is still
on the come back trail, that's another frame in the bag, 7-9 behind now and
still in contention... Perry's recovery is complete, back to 8-8, so it's a best of
three now... Dominic is on course to pull another frame back, he's had a run of
53 with a 52 point lead and that's another frame for the Welshman... the nerve
ends are really jangling now, and that's just the audience! Parrott was holding
a 49 point in the 17th frame, but Perry is up to 40 now and still at the
table... Dale is already on to 30 in the frame he needs to level the match...
and Perry has stormed through that frame and leads 9-8... Dale's break ends, he
leads 43-2 but Chuang has a chance now... it couldn't be closer, Dale leads
43-42... Parrott made 17, broke down and Perry has made 20 so far... and now the
break is 67 and Perry has won... so just one match left, Dale leads 48-42 and
you couldn't begin to predict what might happen... don't forget to join us
tomorrow to see the Crucible draw, who will play who? It's a high quality pack
of qualifiers and there doesn't look to be an easy match for any of the Top 16
seeds, we could be in for some first round thrillers later in April when we get
to the Crucible... Dale has found a red.... he's fifteen ahead on the green....
and he's got the green... but not the brown... he has now and it's 9-9...
the first time Dale has been level since frame two... The first chance goes to
Chuang and he's crafted 25 so far and still in good position, can he hold his
nerve now? He's looking good, on 48 now, probably irrelevant in the situation
that it's all blacks so far! Well the break ends at 49, but it's useful points
on the board in a deciding frame... Dale has it all to do now... Chuang is back
at the table 63 ahead... the finishing line is in sight now... and he's done it, a remarkable achievement for the young Chinese players, a
wildcard in his first season, he's come from Round One to reach the Crucible in
his first season and the Chinese invasion of Sheffield will start again in
April...
