Match Notes Good afternoon, welcome to the start of this match... play gets underway in about half an hour... a wonderful welcome for Graeme Dott who's bravely taken the decision to play after his well-publicised health problems recently.. that's not a good start for the Pocket Scot though catching his intended red too thin and giving Joe an easy starter... Perry misses black from its spot, no damage done, some early nerves from both players... here's the first decent chance for Dott... and nicely on to 35... and that's a very good 64 break to start his campaign, 50 ahead with only two reds left... Perry gets a snooker but it' academic now as Dott fires in a red and wins the opener... Perry has a good scoring opening in frame two... well he's missed a red, and he's knocked all the reds open now too so a 46 point lead and nothing easy for Dott to get started, he finds one and he's already onto 27, playing at a fair old clip at the moment... the break ends at 35, a good white and only a very hard red left for Perry... a brilliant pot by Perry... and he clears up to take the frame... Perry's going very well in the third again 60 points ahead, only 59 on... after that run of 47... Perry gets another red and takes the lead now at 2-1... there's the first bad miss by Perry but Dott hasn't made anything from the leave... this time he can but he's only moved his score along to 20 and this visit isn't going to be conclusive as he's run out of position again, leading 42-5.. now he's got the chance to close out the frame and it should be 2-2 at the interval and he's done that so honours even as they go off for a 15 minute break... Perry has started well after the interval, this visit has yielded 39 so far... and now it's a frame winner, a fluent run of 74 now... and he's completed a century, good snooker so far in this match... Perry's made 38 in the next before letting Dott back in... he's made 30 but if forced to play safe now... well the reds have been pushed right up to baulk and now back round the table from the safety, Joe leads 38-30 and he's now left a red on... onto 41 and that should be enough now to win the frame... leading 71-38 on the yellow... he's missed the yellow so Perry will play for snookers, well he's left the yellow on so the match is all square again... Perry has opened a 31 point lead in the seventh... another chance falls to Perry as Dott misses a red to centre, and he could take the frame at this visit... and he does with that 55... Hilarity in the next as Terry Camilleri has to warn Graeme Dott that three misses and he'll lose the frame, but the reds are scattered everywhere and any hit or miss could cost Dott the frame here... Dott carefully hits a red! It's not happening for Dott in this frame... he got a chance and he's got the worst kick of the season, he is disgusted.. so Perry now leads 36-2 and he's stretched that to 51-2 and now he's put Dott in a horrible snooker and he's hit the black twice trying to escape... there's a fair bit of banter going on now, especially now Dott has fluked the red out of the snooker... this is the advantage of being the only table in play, the audience are getting fully involved and thoroughly enjoying this bright and breezy match... all business now and Dott attempts to clear up to win the frame, he needs blue to black still.. and this is a very hard black, a cut back to a blind pocket, he's got it... great clearance of 65 there... Dott is well fired up now and that is a stunning opening red in the last frame of the session... he's made 17 but that black has done everything but fall into the pocket... a good red to the middle gets Perry started and the black is waiting for him... a good break so far, 66 now, and the frame is safe, he'll take the one frame lead overnight with that 82. Good Morning, welcome back, the match is nicely balance, there's never been more than a frame between the players and in a few minutes we'll see the player return to conclude the match.. Dott sets out with 29 but that failure gives Perry an early chance to settle... Perry does more than that, he's rattled along to 64 already, so for the first time in the match Perry opens a two frame advantage with that excellent 104 clearance... Perry's first in with a scoring chance in the next... only 17 at that visit... Joe's got another chance though and can build on his lead now... not much though, he's progressed to 33-0.. congratulations to the three winners of our 888.com VIP ticket competition, Tammy Byham, Khalid Salem and Steve Starkie have their VIP day out tomorrow at the Crucible.. Watch out next week on GCS for more 888.com competitions with the chance to win some great souvenir prizes... Dott responds with 35 and the frame is in the balance now... Dott's back in and has got one of the last two reds but he won't get the last as he's snookered himself on it... Perry gets the red, but misses the brown clearing up... the blue is awkward for Dott who trails by 6 points... he's cleared up to take the frame.. Dott is setting about a break in the next, he's moved on to 24 and this is a good break by Dott, onto 55 and he's completed a superb 126 to level the match again... this is boiling up into another thriller... Perry is nicely onto a break in the frame before the interval, 29 already... and now he's on 81, a fabulous break and he regains the lead.. there's the century for Perry, his third in the match, this is very high quality snooker from both players.... Interval over and now it's the run to the winning line... Perry has the first scoring visit... from which he makes just 19... another chance for Perry now... and he's clinched the frame and that's a two frame gap again at 8-6.. could that be a fatal error by Dott, just 8 points, he's turned the table over to Perry who's already made 55 at this visit... onto 72, frame secure, a 9-6 lead and he could make another century here... no, he misses the black on 88... but he won't mind, he stands just one frame from the second round now.. Dott pots a red but not a colour and here's an opening for Perry.. Perry only makes 18 at that attempt... now Dott has a chance and he needs to take it if he's going to hang on in this match... well he's moved 39-18 ahead but he's left a red on for Perry again... it's getting a bit nervy, Perry now trails 39-29... another 9 points to Dott's total, 48-29... there are two reds left, it's very tense... Dott has snookered Perry on both reds... Dott's a long way off with the long red he was left... Perry gets it...let off, Perry's gone in off... now Dott's missed the last red and Perry's got it... Dott still leads 52-36 and they're now on the yellow... and this is the chance Perry needs, he's wrong side of the blue and 7 points behind... a long pink which he misses, the drama continues... Perry needs pink and black, Dott needs the pink... Dott's left Perry a very thin pink which rattles the jaws... Dott gets it and he's still in the match... Perry gets 12 on the board but here comes the tenacious Dott again, onto 22 at this visit... the visit ends at 28... Perry misses a red by a long way and somehow leaves everything safe... Dott doesn't, can Joe contain his nerves to convert this chance into a match-winner... so far so good, he's know 59-28 ahead with one red left, but that's up on the side rail and he's missed it... that was match ball... the key to this frame might be the blue which is tight on the side cushion... Dott's got the red, but his problem now will be the blue... he's played for the reverse double... it flies in, great shot... he rattles the long pink, the black is over a pocket so it's all on the pink now.. Perry misses it and goes in off... pink is on the baulk cushion so no pot on for Dott... Dott's stuck the pink up for Perry... and he gets a bit of a kick, either way he's missed it but it's gone safe... Perry's got it this time and he's through |
