Biography

Remember the name!

Michael earned a place in the Guinness book of records when he made his first competitive century break, 105, aged just nine years old. His break came during a competition in the Empire Club Neath on 24 March 2001.

That was just a warning. Since then White has stormed to the top of the Welsh junior rankings, making his first Welsh Academy century during the final of an Under 14 ranking event and he tops that age group. He's also riding high in the Under 16 and Under 18 groups and has earned a place on the Welsh Under 16 team in 2003, the youngest Welsh player to achieve that honour.

And it's not just the juniors feeling the wrath of his cue. During the 2002-3 season Michael reached the quarter finals of a Welsh Senior Ranking event, yet again the youngest player to earn that distinction. On that that experienced former professional Robert Harrhy proved a match too far, but it won't be long before White adds a senior title to his string of junior honour.

Words of his talent reached the ears of the BBC and in 2001 he was invited to visit the Crucible, where he drew admiring comments from players such as John Parrott (I hope I've retired before I have to play him!) and appearing in a BBC tv feature during the World championship coverage.
