TIAN PENGFEI GOES CHINESE CRACKERS  DATE: 28 July 2004

The first day's play got off to an amazing start, when, with his very first visit to the table, China's Tian Pengfei stroked in a 141 total clearance against Sebastiaan Kan from Holland.

After the success of Ding Junhui all eyes are on the new talent to emerge from China. Penfei is already well known to international snooker audiences, having reached the knock out stages of two previous IBSF World Under 21 Championships, and he also compiled a break of 131 in the IBSF World Championship in China last Autumn.

Seventeen year old Liang Wenbo hit a break of 128 in the same event and is tipped to be the next Chinese star. He started his Group A campaign with a solid 4-0 win over Bahrain's Mohammed Al Shaikh, contributing useful breaks of 45 and 48 in the first two frames.

Xiao Guo Dong is new to international competition and he was on the wrong end of a 4-1 defeat at the hands of the very promising Moh Keen Ho from Malaysia.  Moh starred for Malaysia in the 2003 SEA Games and is benefiting from Malaysia's policy of throwing their young players in at the deep end to gain experience. Moh opened up with 40 in the first, then knocked in an excellent 73 and added a run of 52 in the third. Dong fought back well to take the next, but Moh wrapped up the match in the fifth frame.
