SUPER SCOT HITS ANOTHER PRESTON MAX                                                                                4 OCTOBER 2004
John Higgins stroked his way to a brilliant 147 break in the Totesport Grand Prix at the Guild Hall Preston on Monday night.

29 year old Higgins compiled the fifth maximum of his career and the first of the 2004-5 season in frame three of his match with England's Ricky Walden.

Higgins was trailing 2-0 at the time to Flint's Walden, who qualified by beating Nick Dyson in Pontin's in September.

Higgins, who also produced a maximum break in the final of last season's LG Cup at the Guild Hall, picks up £24,000 for his superb effort.

The final frame score in the record books will read John Higgins 155-0, as Walden has conceded two fouls early in the frame before Higgins set out on his break.

Higgins has now compiled the last three 147s to be recorded in the official record books. He also compiled a 147 in the 2003 British Open against Michael Judge.

The first maximum for Higgins came at the 2000 Nations Cup and he followed that effort a few weeks later with another, in the Irish Masters. He now lies third of the Maximum Men. Only Stephen Hendry with 8 and Ronnie O'Sullivan with 6, have scored more 147s in official tournament play.
