Newly
crowned IBSF World Champion Mark Allen, swept to victory in the
second Barry McNamee Memorial Cup in Dungannon, with a resounding
6-1 win over Kieran McMahon in the final.Allen smashed in breaks of 93 and 75 to open in style, but was pegged back by a run of 57 from McMahon. Undeterred Allen extended his lead with 48 and 41 in the fourth, then ran in 110, his fourth century of the day. that was followed by 81. McMahon was all set to keep the match alive, but he snookered himself on the blue in the seventh and from the leave Allen slotted the colours home to lift the trophy and take home the winner's cheque for £1000. Allen was
supported throughout by his girlfriend,
She and the rest of the audience watched enthralled as Allen and Joe Swail dished up a cliff-hanging semi final. It looked like it would be plain sailing for Swail when he constructed breaks of 61 and 35 to lead 2-0, and stretched his lead to 3-1 with a superb break of 90, after Allen had taken the third with 39. Breaks of 37 and 79 brought the eighteen year old level, but he was soon behind again as Swail pieced together runs of 59 and 48 in the seventh. Allen sent the match into the decider, compiling a flawless break of 100. Swail made the early running, but a break of 34 brought Allen back into contention and the match revolved on who would get the green. Allen got it, and added the brown to ensure a memorable victory. Earlier in the day Allen compiled breaks of 135 and 136 as he overpowered Colin Bingham and Rodney Goggins. Kieran McMahon ended the hopes of Patrick Wallace, despite a break of 138 from the home club player. And McMahon proved that win was no fluke as he pieced together three breaks over 50 in his 5-1 semi final win over Julian Logue. |
